CentOS 5.4 on AMD X2

I found it impossible to boot the installation DVD on such a machine. The boot process would hang after the following boot messages:

pci 0000:00:00.0: Enabling HT MSI Mapping
pci 0000:00:02.0: Enabling HT MSI Mapping
pci 0000:00:03.0: Enabling HT MSI Mapping
pci 0000:00:04.0: Enabling HT MSI Mapping
pci 0000:00:09.0: Enabling HT MSI Mapping

I found the solution here which in short consists of adding the following 2 options in grub:

acpi=off noapic
